CANSSI Ontario STAGE Welcomes PhD Trainee Daxin Wu

Daxin Wu - STAGE Trainee Card

Daxin Wu Selected as a Trainee Under the CANSSI Ontario STAGE Program.

CANSSI Ontario STAGE is pleased to announce that Daxin Wu has been selected as a CANSSI Ontario STAGE Trainee with his project, Genetic interaction analysis using scalable linear mixed model in large biobanks.”

Daxin is currently a PhD student in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto, where he is conducting research under the supervision of Drs. Gary Bader and Shelley Bull.

Before embarking on his doctoral journey, he earned a Bachelor of Engineering from the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He is also a recipient of
University of Toronto’s Connaught International Scholarship.

Daxin has previously made contributions in applying machine learning techniques to problems in chemical physics and molecular dynamics. He is currently focused on overcoming the statistical and computational challenges of genome-wide interaction studies in human populations.

His CANSSI Ontario STAGE project aims to detect genetic interactions in large-scale biobank data by integrating pathway-based biological insights with advanced statistical genetics techniques such as linear mixed models.

CANSSI Ontario STAGE is proud to support Daxin in his research endeavors and looks forward to his contributions in advancing statistical methods for genetic interaction detection and deepening our understanding of complex human traits through interdisciplinary approaches.

About

CANSSI Ontario STAGE (Strategic Training for Advanced Genetic Epidemiology) is a formal and comprehensive training program in Genetic Epidemiology and Statistical Genetics, the first of its kind in Canada and one of few in the world.

The program offers training and career development opportunities designed to cross-train individuals at the interface of genetics and population health sciences in genetic epidemiology and statistical genetics—two disciplines currently facing a massive shortage of qualified individuals in Canada and elsewhere.

The overall goal is to improve prevention and management of complex diseases by increasing capacity in genetic epidemiology and statistical genetics research.

CANSSI Ontario is the Ontario Regional Centre of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI). Its goal is to strengthen and enhance research and training in data science by developing programs that promote interdisciplinary research and enable multidisciplinary collaborations.
