Position Description

Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Statistical Innovation in Health Economics and Decision Modelling

Child Health Evaluative Sciences (CHES), The Hospital for Sick Children

The Child Health Evaluative Sciences (CHES) program at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work under the supervision of Dr. Anna Heath and Dr. Petros Pechlivanoglou, leading experts in statistical methods for health economic evaluation. This is a unique opportunity to develop and apply advanced statistical methods for decision modeling in health economic evaluations in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. We are searching for a postdoctoral research fellow with expertise in statistics/econometrics or health economics and a willingness to explore new fields and opportunities to develop an exciting new interdisciplinary research stream.

The successful candidate will work with a team of international researchers and graduate students specializing in decision analysis, health economics, statistics, and epidemiology. This position is ideal for candidates who are passionate about learning new skills and applying rigorous statistical thinking to improve healthcare decision-making.


Here’s What You’ll Get To Do:

  • Lead and support the development of innovative statistical methods in decision analytic modeling and value of information analysis
  • Contribute to the conceptualization and programming of health economic models using R
  • Apply advanced statistical methods including survival analysis and Bayesian approaches in pediatric and public health contexts
  • Support the design and execution of simulation models used to inform health policy decisions
  • Prepare and contribute to peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, and scientific reports
  • Mentor graduate students and assist with dissemination activities, including workshops and presentations at international conferences

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • PhD (or near completion) in Biostatistics, Statistics, Health Economics, or a related quantitative field
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical programming using R
  • Strong background in development of statistical methodology, decision modeling, simulation-based evaluation of methods, or statistical evaluation of health technologies
  • Experience with survival analysis methods is a strong asset
  • Proven ability to work as part of a collaborative research team
  • An interest in developing an independent line of research
  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills
  • A willingness to grow their skills and expertise in multiple complementary disciplines.
  • A strong publication record or evidence of potential for high-quality scholarly output

Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time (2-years)
Location: Toronto, Canada (hybrid or remote flexibility negotiable)
Start Date: Flexible (Summer/Fall 2025 preferred)
