About Emma

What inspired you to pursue a PhD in your area of research?

I decided to pursue a PhD because I wanted the opportunity to grow and push myself academically. The choice to specialize in risk management was motivated by my interest in both mathematics and economics, as well as a personal interest I’ve had with the subject since the financial crisis of 2007-08.

What advice do you have for young women interested in pursuing a career in statistics or data science?

My advice would be to follow your passions and believe in your own abilities. If you have the talent and the interest to study statistics, mathematics, and/or data science, don’t let yourself be held back by self-doubt.
