Beiwen Wu, CANSSI Ontario STAGE PhD Trainee, Fall 2002 Cohort.
CANSSI Ontario STAGE is pleased to announce Beiwen Wu as one of four new trainees.
Beiwen is a PhD student in Epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.
Her research focuses on lipidomics in cancer risk and prognosis of aerodigestive tract cancers by evidence triangulation using longitudinal cohorts and genetic instruments. Beiwen has also published research on epidemiology, nutrition, cancer, and genetics. Before her doctoral studies, Beiwen received her Master of Science in Public Health in Human Nutrition from Johns Hopkins University.
At STAGE, Beiwen will be conducting research under the supervision of Drs. Celia Greenwood (McGill University), Rayjean Hung (Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute [LTRI]), and Geoffrey Liu (Princess Margaret Cancer Centre), as a Doctoral Fellow at LTRI. Beiwen was admitted to STAGE for project: Comprehensive investigation of lipidomics in the risk and prognosis of aerodigestive tract (ADT) cancers by evidence triangulation.
The goal of her project is to improve the understanding of lipids in cancer risk and prognosis, identify novel predictive and prognostic lipid-related biomarkers, generate risk prediction models that may be jointly used with clinical evaluations, and design possible intervention strategies.
About
CANSSI Ontario STAGE (Strategic Training for Advanced Genetic Epidemiology) is a formal and comprehensive training program in Genetic Epidemiology and Statistical Genetics. When it launched, STAGE was the first program of its kind in Canada and one of few in the world.
STAGE offers training and career development opportunities designed to cross-train individuals at the interface of genetics and population health sciences in genetic epidemiology and statistical genetics—two disciplines currently facing a massive shortage of qualified individuals in Canada and elsewhere.
The overall goal is to improve the prevention and management of complex diseases by increasing capacity in genetic epidemiology and statistical genetics research.
CANSSI Ontario is the Ontario Regional Centre of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI). Its goal is to strengthen and enhance research and training in data science by developing programs that promote interdisciplinary research and enable multidisciplinary collaborations.
