The Department of Statistical Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Actuarial Science. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023.
Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We are seeking exceptional candidates with research interests in Actuarial Science whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental research areas https://www.statistics.utoronto.ca/our-research/about-our-research. Research topics of interest include but are not limited to, insurance statistics, insurance data analytics, risk and loss modelling in insurance, or insurance risk management. Professional actuarial qualifications recognized by the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society, and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries would be considered an important asset.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Experience working with, teaching, or mentoring diverse groups or diverse students is an asset.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence, which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-related journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier including a strong teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference.
