Don’t miss out on the opportunity to work alongside the world’s best in paediatric healthcare.

Position Description

The laboratory of Dr. Philipp G. Maass is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Genome Data Science to join a dynamic research team, focused on functional genomics of the non-coding genome and related novel disease mechanisms. The Maass academic research group is embedded within the Genetics & Genome Biology program of the SickKids Research Institute in Toronto, Canada (https://lab.research.sickkids.ca/maass/).

Employment Type.

One position for a Postdoctoral Fellow in computational biology/data science for 18 months (including benefits, open for renewal)

Here’s What You’ll Need.

Shortlisted successful candidates will have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree (candidates who have obtained their PhD within the last two years are preferred) from a recognized academic institution in one of: computational biology, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, or molecular genetics. Previous postdoctoral research experience will be seen as a plus. A strong publication record and demonstrated ability to perform impactful research as part of a multidisciplinary, broadly collaborative team, as well as motivation and the ability to work independently are required.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do.

Leading an independent research project to better understand genome organization of the non-coding genome. Coding/scripting and pipeline development (implementation) experience with multiple programming languages are desired (R, python, shell), as is previous experience in analyzing large-scale genomic data sets in a high performance computing environment. Specifically, previous experience in the analysis of genomic datasets (RNAseq, ChIPseq, ATACseq, Hi-C, motif enrichments, massively parallel reporter assays [MPRAs], public databases, etc.), annotation, and interpretation of results is desired. Research within the Maass Lab (see website and Pubmed) is largely focused on the analysis, interpretation, and functional validation of loci of the non-coding genome, such as novel long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and genome organization by functional genomics & biochemical approaches, live cell imaging, CRISPR-related technology, and computational biology. You will conduct state-of-the-art research in a highly dynamic research environment, disseminate research and clinical findings through publications, presentations, and seminars, and be part of national and international collaborations to establish your own networks.

Our Commitment to Diversity

The children and families we care for are from a variety of communities, and so are our employees. We welcome and encourage everyone to join our organization and be part of our team.
