PhD Student Group

The CANSSI Ontario Student Group Program allows graduate PhD level students to host distinguished speakers who bring expertise and insights into statistical sciences and related fields.

This funding supports students in organizing talks and seminars, fostering knowledge exchange and academic growth within their institution. Students participating in the program will receive an additional allowance for their research endeavors.

Goals

1. Promote Networking
Provide up to $3,000 CAD allowance to support the participation of visiting speakers in relevant departments at CANSSI Ontario partner universities (e.g. Departments of Statistics or Mathematics, etc.). This initiative enriches the academic environment by exposing students and faculty to world-class expertise in statistical sciences across diverse contexts and research areas to stimulate intellectual discourse.

2. Facilitate Student Research
Provide a $1,000 CAD research allowance to support graduate PhD students in purchasing vital research tools such as computers and software, as well as funding travel to national or international scientific conferences. This financial aid is designed to bolster their research efforts and encourage the pursuit of innovative methods.

3. Strengthen the Statistical Sciences Community
CANSSI Ontario seeks to raise awareness among regional PhD students in statistical sciences, as well as its partner universities. By offering research allowances, our goal is to strengthen the ties with graduate students, faculty, and academic institutions, and to foster interdisciplinary collaborations.
