Announcing CANSSI Ontario’s 2024 Cohort of Mdoc Program Trainees: Huanlin Mao

Huanlin Mao is a PhD student in the Department of Statistical Sciences (DoSS) at the University of Toronto, working under the joint supervision of Professors Linbo Wang (DoSS and the Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough) and Ningyuan Chen (Rotman School of Management and the Department of Management at the University of Toronto Mississauga).

In the Mdoc project, “Data-driven Decision Making for Business Applications,” they will focus on addressing key challenges that businesses face by integrating prediction methodologies and optimization techniques to inform decision-making processes amidst uncertainty.

Huanlin’s research interests are causal inference, experimental design, and data-driven decision making. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Wuhan University, where he was awarded the national scholarship for achieving the highest graduating average among his cohort.

Currently, Huanlin is advancing his research on data-driven decision-making problems and is actively exploring how experimental design and statistical techniques in causal inference can be utilized to tackle interference issues in experiments.

CANSSI Ontario launched the Multidisciplinary Doctoral (Mdoc) Training Program in the DoSS in 2019. Students admitted to the Mdoc Program can be domestic or international and will receive the same funding package as the other doctoral students entering the DoSS including Teaching Assistant assignments. Learn more.
